The process of sedimentation forms barriers and lakes. In 1979, they were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The lake system of Plitvice Lakes consists of 16 lakes and many smaller ones. The Plitvice Lakes system ends with enchanting waterfalls that continue their course along the Korana River.
